The Mini Matte Box is a lightweight, affordable solution for filmmakers using DSLR and mirrorless style cameras. The Mini Matte Box weighs only 140g (4.9oz).
It provides added protection for your lens and can help prevent light flares with the included top french flag. 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-16 screw holes and cold shoe mounts provide several mounting points for a variety of accessories such as small LED lights or microphones. The kit also includes a 15mm rod adapter that attaches to the bottom of the matte box, providing support for the weight of the matte box as well as a way to secure your lens in place to provide lens stability (does not support lenses with front element telescoping).
The added benefit of this matte box are the two filter options. The front of the matte box provides a slot for any standard 4×5.65 filter. Also, screw-on filters can be attached to the included adapter rings via the inside threading that match each adapter ring diameter. This adapter ring is first attached to your lens and then the matte box clamps onto the adapter ring. The kit includes the Mini Matte Box, top french flag, 15mm single rod support attachment, and four lens adapter rings (82mm, 77mm, 67mm, and 72mm). Additional adapter rings in non-standard sizes (52mm, 55mm, 58mm, 62mm, 85mm) as well as cine version adapter rings (80mm and 85mm) are now available.
NOTE: To prevent vignetting we recommend using focal lengths above 24mm for S35 and 35mm for full frame.

Near perfect lightweight matte box
Having used uber expensive matte boxes from Arri and Oconner I can understand why they cost so much, but like many others I’m still bemused when I see prices for what are considered budget matte boxes. I was making a small run and gun rig, and just wanted the most basic matte box, I rely on screw on filters, so options for drop ins would just be a bonus. I looked at the new $100 options and the materials used looked cheap and nasty, and was about to bite the bullet until I came across this, and having been very impressed with the brand before I made an impulse purchase.For the price I could not be happier, they could easily have charged twice if not thrice the price and I would feel it fair. it’s extremely well built but super super light. The included accessories, I was honestly surprised about at this price point, seriously the matte box alone is well worth the cost of entry. Not important, but the packaging is great too.Is it perfect? No, the major downside is the way the box tightens onto the lens ring, it’s such a small knob and it can be hard to get a tight fit, they ideally should have used a lever/clamp solution, or just a knob that is easier to grip. This complaint only applies to the clip on option, which most will use in Gimbal/Drone situations, and it’s fine. Otherwise I would recommend trying to use the rod options for a more secure fit. It’s not as if the box will fall off in clip-on mode, it’s just more likely to rotate and slip. I’m tempted to drill small holes into the lens ring, or jerry rig some other option.But for the price, this is a seriously great option, you can even use a drop in filter, bonus!

Best Value for Blackmagic Camera and Sigma Lens
The Tilta Matte Box is a steal for the quality and adaptability.I use it on a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K (Also fits 6K) with Sigma 18-35 1.8 and 50-100 1.8 Art Lenses.This build quality is very solid and professional. This is great especially for compact and mobile setups, in my video you can see how easy it is to adapt to your lens straight from the box. Just pick the right adapter, or mount it onto 15mm rods.It can take all sorts of filters, standard mattes and also circular filters on the outside. There are additional adapters you can buy from Tilta, but I did not need any of them.The large French Flag is great for protecting the lens too or blocking sun, and has a switch to lock it in place. My only con for this review is that I wish there were side flags or barn doors available.

I love it! But.. It Doesn’t fit small rigs
UPDATE: OK, I bought some more parts to help raise my camera and figured a quick release system would be nice. The matte box works perfectly now and is completely adjustable , I’m increasing my star rating from 3 to 4 because this really does work well, I can use my variable ND’s too! Its still thin plastic, but it doesnt feel weak.I bought this so I could easily swap lenses while only using one ND filter across all my lenses. Because of this I did not want or need to directly mount this to my lenses, I wanted to mount to rails. I also didnt want to buy a huge matte box for my low profile rig so I bought this.But.. I immediately ran into two issues.1. The rail mount part was assembled wrong by the manufacturer. I tried getting it on for 30 minutes, tried looking at the manual and immediately realized whoever at tilta assembled this part installed the arm screw facing the wrong way which meant the knobs kept hitting each other and eventually couldnt be loosed as they obstructed each others ability to rotate.Took me 2 hours to remove the rail mount from the matte box just so I could tear it apart and re assemble it correctly. (Which required tools not provided in the box)2. Now this is the truly frustrating issue I have. Apparently this mini matte box wasnt designed for small rigs. At least not out of the box. As it wont sit low enough while using the rail mount provided, which makes this matte box useless for my needs.I wish they advertised this differently so I knew it wasnt meant for small set ups..I’m forced to either return this item or make it so my rig isnt low profile..If i wanted a big rig I wouldn’t have purchased a « mini » matte box.. which is really just an excuse for tilta to use really thin cheap plastic

Pretty Sweet Box
Listen, if you want a matte box for preventing lens glare, protection, or just to appear like a 20 year professional DP this box is pretty sweet. You can connect it to a rail or screw it on to your lens. Be sure to double check your lens size(s) before ordering. If you are using Sony APS-C with a Sony lens you’ll probably need to order a separate adapter like 55mm. Check your lens size! 10/10 would recommend.

Quality built mini mattebox for run and gun.
I did a YouTube video on this mattebox. For the price, the build quality is well done. Features a mix of metal and modeled plastic build. Offers 2 cold shoe slots for accessories which is a plus.Downsides are that it only has 1 filter slot a 4×5.65 which is a standard size but it is held in by a little peg.Overall, for a run and gun set up or on a gimbal this is a great mattebox to use. Its small size makes it super easy to travel with. Very good value for the money.

Great and very light matte box! If you are going to buy it, also buy a 4×5.65 UV or protection filter because if you use wide angle lens with circular filters in front you’ll get vignetting in your shots. Without circular filters there’s no vignetting. I have a Canon 10-18 and works great without vignettin until 12 mm.
